We offer day long sessions, ongoing classes, and retreats to individuals, couples and groups.
As with all or our programs we work to understand your needs and expectations so together we can create standards for success to guide our work. We customize every service and scheduling based on the unique needs and style of you and the group in which you wish to nurture community.
NVC Dojo draws from the traditions of mastery found in the martial arts as well as the fine arts. Practice that is deliberate, committed, inspired, and continuous over time is required to bring the work into an embodied state. Nonviolent Communication is an ontological practice—generative and self-referencing. In the practice is a basic assumption that connection to each other and enriching life is the most enjoyable motivation for coming together, rather than acting out of guilt, shame, judgment or blame. Based in the work of Marshall Rosenberg and used around the world for the last 40 years, Nonviolent Communication explores the practice of communication from a non-domination paradigm. We will explore the ways in which our language reflects an embodied domination thinking and practice, and begin to transform our internal, emotional landscape as we learn linguistic skills that align with our compassionate nature.
“What I experienced very powerfully throughout the day was David’s sincerity of presence and embodiment of Nonviolent Communication consciousness. I felt so touched, embraced by that essence of NVC through both David and Judith. I enjoyed having movement and experiential learning being center-stage in the way you structured the day. As many of us expressed, the quality of connection and the learning environment you created were deeply nurturing and supported us in living the practice.” —Lucy Leu, author Nonviolent Communication Companion Workbook
Nonviolent Communication, transforms the divisiveness caused by habitual thought and speech patterns into compassionate connections — internally with ourselves and externally with others. With awareness of and taking responsibility for, our intentions, thoughts, speech and actions, we are able to live consciously, in full choice and to co-create a world embodying our deepest values and our highest dreams.
Our programs integrate Nonviolent Communication with Somatics and practices derived from the revolutionary non-aggressive martial art of Aikido. IN this unique program we utilize our connection to the food we grow and as a way to make NVC a more easily accessible full body and energetic life practice.
The basics of NVC practices help us understand:
- Observation (as distinguished from evaluation)
- Feeling as distinguished from thought
- Need as distinguished from strategy
- Requests as distinguished from demands or vague wants
In our programs you will learn how to:
- stay connected on the heart level during difficult conversations.
- center your attention on the present moment.
- Identify and shift communication that blocks connection
- Care for yourself and your intimate relationships
- establish healthy boundaries
- Be more supportive of your children
- better live in harmony with your values
- offer self-empathy and self-forgiveness
- transform anger to a place of healing and connection
